Samantha picked a pasta meal from “The Classic 1,000 Pasta and Rice Recipes” entitled Spicy Farmhouse Pasta. I didn’t vet the recipe but just did the shopping.
For two, the ingredients scaled down to:
- 120g rigatoni
- 10ml butter
- 150g streaky bacon
- 250ml double cream
- 250g cheddar cheese
- mustard, Tabasco and seasoning.
Yes, that’s for two – the full recipe was aimed at coronary death for six.
There are some quite scary numbers when you work out calories and fat content. The sauce’n’pasta together are 3,000 calories and the bacon brings a quite trivial extra 350. Fat content was 250g after adding a mere 30g from the bacon.
After sharing the meal between us (and adding the calories from lunchtime), I managed 3,000 calories and 165g of fat – today did not get a gold star in my food diary.
