Tale of the fox

Sometimes at night I would look out the bedroom window and see a bushy-tailed fox trotting along the road outside, having just come out of the trees of Highwood. If I was very lucky, I would see two. Depending on the season, you could hear them barking in the distance. Seeing or hearing them was always an uplifting experience, like watching the blue tits swarming over the feeders in the garden or the squirrels chasing each other in the trees around the lake.

This morning, whilst on the bridge crossing the A329 to Earley Station, I spotted a red/brown creature lying beside the road, obviously hit by a car some time last night. Such a sad sight.
