My favourite Windows Phone apps – #5 in a series

  • Smithsonian National Zoo

The main part of this app is the live video feed from the zoo – lions, pandas, orang-utans, tigers, and so on. It’s weird to be able to load an app on my phone and have real time, good quality video of animals in a zoo in Washington DC appear on the screen.

A lot of the time there’s nothing to watch as the animals may be out of shot or too far away. Also, there’s the time zones to take into account. Some of the footage can be depressing, like a panda going round and round and round in an endless loop in a room. The same panda (or maybe a different one – who can tell?) sleeping with its chest slowly rising and falling is quite restful to watch.
