Soil

Professor Chris Collins, from the Black Country (COTW), is explaining tonight about how we decide if soil is too polluted or not. Allotment owners would have done themselves a favour by turning up as he covered the problems of traditional coal ash fertilisation. The final Cafe Scientifique of the academic year went well, although the turnout was low. This did seem to involve a drop in the more fringe fans which I feel is a benefit to all despite being less than inclusive in outlook. The message I came away with is that in general we’re on top of things and we shouldn’t panic. Yes, there are.hazardous pollutants in the soil, which varies across the country (like naturally occurring arsenic in the SW) but you need to know what the real risk is.
