The Damned

Fun time at Sub 89 as The Damned (supported by Devon’s “The Computers”) took to the stage.  The band are currently Sensible and Vanian plus three other guys.  That may sound cruel on the rest of the band, some of whom have been in The Damned since 1996, but they all joined AFTER the songs in the set list were originally recorded.  Basically, the band have written nothing of note since 1985 when Phantasmagoria came out. The Damned are a tribute band to themselves like so many other bands, such as From The Jam, have become. That’s not necessarily a problem if you’re going along to hear your favourite late 70s/early 80s punk as they do that reasonably well. Just don’t expect anything new to be memorable.

Lowlight of the evening:

  • Some idiot chucking beer at the Captain just as the band were preparing to come on stage. Almost wrecked the gig. Thanks, idiot.

Highlight of the evening:

  • “Eloise” – fab track for singing along to
